Waikato Security is leveraging the power of MYOB Exo and strong local support to extend its reach into new markets.

Waikato Security (WSS) is the Waikato’s leading security services provider and has been keeping people and property secure for over 20 years. WSS built its business and reputation in commercial security and in recent years has expanded into residential security. There is also growing demand for its security technologies.

The company’s resources include a sophisticated national alarm monitoring and response centre, a team of security officers, security technologies and products and a highly experienced management team.

However, while WSS was adapting to changing market needs its original DOS-based system wasn’t, so the company started assessing complete financial packages.

Moving with the times

According to Marian Mangan, WSS Executive Manager, it was becoming increasingly obvious the company’s 20-year old DOS system was not only outdated but no longer technically supported.

“As the company expanded we really needed to move to a system that allowed full reporting as our DOS program only used debtor invoices and no longer met our business needs,” she says.

Mangan says she assessed three main packages but that MYOB Exo stood out in terms of the support that backed it up.

“We dismissed a one-man-band product because it simply didn’t offer the sort of support WSS needed and another product just wasn’t user-friendly. For instance, to make even simple, everyday changes we would have had to go through technical support and that really wasn’t the right fit.”

MYOB Exo, on the other hand, suited WSS’ immediate requirements and also had the potential to develop further to meet the company needs.

“We wanted something to allow us to provide a total financial solution and MYOB Exo does that.”

Effective implementation

Mangan believes WSS provided Enprise with some definite challenges as the company had certain requirements that couldn’t be compromised on but says that as Enprise has an excellent scoping structure the process was reasonably thorough.

Cheryl Mace, WSS Executive Support, says Enprise made a lot of effort to get things right and believes both parties learnt a considerable amount from the implementation.

“As a result of implementing MYOB Exo I believe WSS is moving to a really good place in terms of our reporting ability. Rather than just looking at services, MYOB Exo allows us to focus on the sales side of the business as we can now easily access stock reporting and sales analysis information.”

WSS is currently in the process of upgrading to a newer version and Mace expects to see even greater processing speeds.

“I can see that in about three months MYOB Exo will deliver even greater benefits to our team,” she says.

Responsive support

While WSS has a strong relationship with Enprise’s Auckland team, Mangan says having a local support team in Hamilton has been invaluable.

“I think Enprise took a really positive step when it established a Hamilton branch and I know we underestimated how much of a difference to us it would make dealing with a local support team.”

Mangan says having local support has benefited WSS in terms of cost savings on travel and peace of mind if problems arise.

“It’s the difference,” says Mace, “between someone being 30 minutes away or having to schedule a day trip from Auckland to resolve a problem. We feel much more supported.”

As a result both Mace and Mangan say they would highly recommend both the MYOB Exo product and Enprise team to other businesses.
