Lacklands LP, a one-stop shop for photographic supplies, is using integration between MYOB Exo and its other systems – including Valogix for inventory planning – to drive down the cost of doing business, while also improving customer service.

Lacklands LP sells cameras, lenses, storage devices and every kind of accessory for nearly a hundred different photographic brands. The company has experienced rapid growth and expects this to increase further over the next twelve months, through organic growth as well as acquisitions.

Lacklands Finance Manager Leigh Boyle says the business always looks to re-engineer processes in preference to simply adding headcount.

“We are facing the same dynamics as every other business out there – tight margins and a requirement for excellent customer service,” she says.

“Our strategy is to use automation and integration to reduce our cost of doing business and improve the customer experience at the same time.”

EXO ‘sits at the centre of everything’, Leigh Boyle says. Lacklands has bolted on a range of tools – including Flow, Web Ninja, Divizio and Valogix – to integrate MYOB Exo with sales, warehouse picking and packing, despatch, inventory planning, stocktaking, inwards goods and other business functions.

“We expect to standardise on Flow for our future integration projects,” says Leigh Boyle.

Lacklands uses Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) with a number of major retailers. Using Flow, sales orders are sent directly into MYOB Exo.

With Lacklands processing significant volumes of orders from large retailers, migrating these transaction-heavy customers to EDI “is a no-brainer,” according to Boyle.

“Customer service also drives our EDI efforts. We use EDI to increase the speed and accuracy of order processing so customers always get the correct order, fast.”

Lacklands also uses its suite of software solutions to ensure that service applies to all their customers, irrespective of size.

The packaging for some products Lacklands sells – such as memory cards – looks almost identical, even though the memory sizes inside the boxes are very different. This makes it impractical to manually pick the goods from the warehouse for despatch.

“We use handheld computers from The RIC Group to automate our warehouse picking,” Leigh Boyle says.

“It integrates directly with MYOB Exo and we no longer have any miss-picking. We’ve lowered our transaction costs and our customers always get the correct product.”
