Enprise customer Hi-Tech Packaging has taken out a major prize at the 2010 Westpac Waitakere Business Awards, winning the UHY Haines Norton Best Mid-sized Business Award.
Enprise is proud to have been involved with Hi-Tech Packaging over the years and is pleased the company’s hard work has been acknowledged by the business community. The judges said Hi-Tech has developed an excellent account management and customer service model.
“There are robust recruitment and people performance management processes in place,” the judges said.
“It’s hard to fault this organisation, which has had solid growth, a realistic appreciation of its markets, and is poised to enter new markets.”
Hi-Tech was established in 1992 as a specialist importer of flexible packaging solutions to the New Zealand market with a focus on global products for local solutions. When Kerry Renwick bought the business with her husband Terry more than six years ago MYOB Exo was already implemented at Hi-Tech Packaging, but the company was using the software at only the most basic level. Kerry has now placed MYOB Exo (and since March this year, Web Ninja CRM) at the heart of a vibrant business that has almost trebled its revenues in six years.
“Everything that can be in Exo, is in Exo,” says Director Kerry Renwick.
“We are using so many more Exo features, including quotations, overseas ordering and invoicing. We’re also generating some seriously useful reporting - ‘debtors by margin’ is an example. It tells us, down to the invoice number, what the margin has been on each order. It’s a big alert that tells us if a piece of business is unprofitable - before it gets too late,” Kerry Renwick says.
Hi-Tech Packaging has bought the Enprise Data Importer/Exporter add-on for MYOB Exo. Kerry Renwick says using this tool has helped her manage price increases that resulted from the New Zealand dollar falling in value.
“It enabled us to send a personalised letter to each customer, telling them exactly what their price increase would be so they could manage their budgets with precision. They really appreciated that,” she says.
Hi-tech Packaging Ltd was a finalist in the 2009 Waitakere Business Awards. Kerry says the near-win encouraged her to do further analysis of the company and its sustainable competitive edge.
“We put in a CRM system – Enprise recommended Web Ninja – and redid our strategic plan. We worked away bit by bit on how to grow, our leadership, goal setting and company values. This has produced far-reaching changes ranging from quarterly breakfast meetings for our entire team, to KPIs for every area of the business. The bones of the company are in place. Now our job is to keep it all alive.”
