The death of SQL Server 2005

Microsoft support for all versions of SQL Server 2005 came to an end on 12 April 2016.

SQL Server 2005 instances will continue to run, but Microsoft is no longer providing hotfixes or security updates.

Security isn’t the only reason to think about upgrading, says Enprise National Sales Manager Peter Chung.

“SQL Server 2014 has been benchmarked to be 13 times faster than SQL Server 2005,” he says.

“Security is a big upgrade driver, but you will also find performance improvements and high-availability features in newer versions of SQL Server.”
