Where ‘serious’ complexity and heavy lifting are required, on-premise is still the boss, says this article from i-start Magazine – but cloud is growing fast.
It quotes research saying the majority of implementations are on-premise at 56 percent (2016), with 27 percent cloud and 17 percent hosted. There is substantial year-on-year growth in cloud, however, as between 2015 and 2016 it went from 11 to that 27 percent.
Enprise customers fit this profile – they are still choosing more cloud-hosted and on-premise solutions than pure cloud solutions, says Southern Region Sales Manager Peter Chung.
“There are various reasons for that. Each customer makes their choice based on their own business needs. For some industries and verticals, on-premise is still the better choice. For others, it may just make sense to squeeze all the value they can out of an existing hardware investment. Cloud is definitely growing but is still being outsold by on-premise and cloud-hosted solutions.”
