Enprise would like to remind our Australian payroll customers that the 1 April headcount for Australian employers is nearly here. The purpose of the headcount is for employers to work out when they need to adopt Single Touch Payroll.
The timing of the headcount is a bit like the Census: An employer can do it after 1 April, but they will need to count the employees who were on their payroll on 1 April 2018.
When to adopt Single Touch Payroll
- For employers with 20 or more employees on 1 April 2018, Single Touch Payroll will be mandatory from 1 July 2018.
- For employers with 19 or fewer employees on 1 April 2018, Single Touch Payroll will be mandatory from 1 July 2019. Alternatively, employers with 19 or fewer employees can adopt Single Touch Payroll prior to this date to ensure they meet the required timeline.
How to count employees
The ATO has resources and a handy, downloadable PDF checklist that outline key information, including what type of employees an employer should count on 1 April 2018. Check out 'Get Ready For Single Touch Payroll' on the ATO site at the link below.
We have set up a Single Touch Payroll landing page on the Enprise website, which we'll update regularly with useful information and resources to help ensure you are compliant with Single Touch Payroll. You'll find information including what STP is, and what it means for employers and employees, news and announcements and key dates to take note of. We encourage you to bookmark the page and visit it regularly.
Also coming up in April: MYOB is currently building STP functionality into its payroll products and the expected release schedule is mid-late April 2018.
